I’ve been an actor for more than two decades.
Acting is an invaluable tool for my writing process. It helps me understand character and motivation; it gives me insight into how to pen meaty roles actors love to play.
Acting greatly facilitates my work as a designer. My sensibilities as an actor help me understand the motivations — from work-related priorities to the personal dramas — of the people for whom I design, My acting skills help me resolve creative interests among different players in different settings with different visions.
Oh, and did I mention, acting is damn fun!
What other field let’s you play dress-up and pretend, and get paid to do it?
A few of the roles I’ve had the pleasure of playing were a tutu wearing fairy who danced ballet in mid air in a cross-dressed version of Midsummer Night’s Dream, a serial killer who gets his brains bashed out (by Keith David) during a police interview gone wrong, and the host of a popular ghost hunting reality TV show who encounters real ghosts in The Ghost Club.
